Vibe working: Agent Mode and Office Agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot

 


Microsoft is rolling out new features in Copilot that change how we use Office apps. They call it vibe working, and it introduces two big upgrades: Agent Mode and Office Agent. Think of it as AI that not only answers prompts but also works with you step by step until your document, spreadsheet, or presentation is ready.

Agent Mode in Excel

Excel has always been powerful, but often too complex for everyday users. Agent Mode makes it feel like you are working with an Excel expert who knows every formula. You can ask it to analyze sales data, build financial reports, create loan calculators, or design household budgets. The AI does not just generate the first draft. It checks, fixes, and repeats until the results make sense.

Agent Mode in Word

Writing in Word now feels more like a conversation. Instead of starting from a blank page, you explain what you need and Copilot drafts the content. You can ask it to update a monthly report, polish a project update, or apply consistent styles across a document. It suggests improvements as you go, making writing faster and easier.

Office Agent in Copilot chat

Many of us start work in chat, and Office Agent brings Copilot into that flow. From a simple chat prompt, you can get a complete PowerPoint deck or a Word document. It asks clarifying questions, researches, and produces polished results. Examples include a presentation on business trends, a savings plan overview for employees, or a report on social media marketing.

Why this matters

These updates show how AI is moving beyond single prompts and into real collaboration. Instead of just helping with one step, Copilot now handles multi-step tasks and refines the output with you. It is a shift toward human and AI working together more naturally.

Availability

Agent Mode in Excel and Word is starting to roll out for Microsoft 365 Copilot subscribers. Office Agent in Copilot chat is launching first in the United States for Personal, Family, and Premium users.

This feels like an important step in how we create documents, analyze data, and build presentations. Vibe working could be the new normal for productivity.
